Interview with Captain K.Bala, Chairman and Founder of Malaysia International Search and Rescue (Part 2)
1. Have you heard of ICE SAR? Did you worked with them before?
Yes, I have heard of ICE SAR, however we did not have the chance to work together. We usually work within the Asia perimeter. Also, because of the difference in our climates, ICE SAR and MISAR deal with different kind of situations and emergencies. We would love to work with them, if there is a chance in the future. Actually, we would love to work with any NGOs because I believe we are doing our part in this world and helping whoever we can.
2. Is your leather jacket part of your uniform?
No, it is not! I am just used to wearing it as I always put small equipment in the pockets. Whenever I need anything, such as a torchlight, swiss knife, I can just take them out from my jacket. Even my boys, who had joined me in MISAR, some of them also started wearing such jackets and have tools in them. One of them even told me that the girlfriend was glad to have my boy around because he is always well-equipped wherever they go.
3. Do you have any casualty during training or operations?
Currently, we have zero casualty during training. We do experience minor scratches and bruises, but that is the due to the nature of our work. This is why I make sure my team is well-prepared before any operations. We go as a team, we come back as a team. I did not put them in the front line to lose their lives, I put them there to make sure the job gets done and they come back safe.
