HOW TO USE A SUN COMPASS BEZEL, featuring ICE SAR Arctic 1200 Series

By having a bi-directional rotating bezel, the latest ICE SAR Arctic 1200 Series is able to function as a solar compass! However, most of us may not be familiar with and/or do not know how to utilize this feature. We will do a step by step tutorial on how to use the bi-directional rotating bezel as a solar compass, be it you are in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere!

Northern Hemisphere

1. You point the hour hand at the sun and imagine an angle formed by the hour hand and a line drawn from the 12 o’clock position to the center of the watch.

2. Bisect that angle and that is true south. Put the turning bezel’s S on that point and you will know the cardinal directions.

Southern Hemisphere

1. You point the 12 o’clock position at the sun; imagine the angle between the hour and the line from the 12 to the center of watch.

2. Bisect that angle and it will give you the true north.
